The Witcher: Unlocked host Falicia Day asked about the controversial storyline of Eskel Witcher to the showrunner. The host asked Lauren, which various viewers are asking, why did she introduce so many Witchers in the plot to kill them in the witcher season 2 brutally.
The Showrunner, Lauren S. Hissrich, replied that the witcher season 2 focuses on the question, ‘Is the Witcher Brotherhood over?’ She explained that Vesemir’s character is facing during the whole season. She mentioned with Sorry that she had to kill more of the Witchers to make it painful for Vesemir.
“We just had to make sure that we were really driving home that point, that the Continent is constantly changing, and is there a place for witchers anymore?” – The Showrunner.
Eskel Witcher from the School of the Wolf got his training from the Master Vesemir at Kaer Morhen, similarly like Geralt of Rivia. He was one of the greatest friends of Geralt of Rivia; we can say he was like a Witcher Brother to him.
Felicia Day bluntly asked Lauren to explain why she decided to kill Eskel Witcher so soon? She stated that the death of Eskel was very early, as in episode 2, he died a very traumatic death.
Lauren, the showrunner, mentioned that they had to kill someone in that episode, and along with that, there are various reasons for Eskel’s death in the second episode. She stated that a monster was going to enter Geralt’s hometown, Kaer Morhen. The reason for the monster entering into the witcher’s keep has something to do with Ciri. The Witcher Geralt, Vesemir, and others knew that many things were going to change because of Ciri entering into Kaer Morhen.
Lauren communicates that the earlier version of the script included a brand new witcher about which no one knew, had heard of, and the audience all of a sudden will be excited that they will meet Coen, Lambert, Eskel, and Jon. And we thought of letting Jon die.
However, Lauren said they gave another thought to the whole idea and decided to kill Eskel instead. Lauren is aware of many fans in love with the character Eskel. But she disclosed that the death of Eskel Witcher changes the personality of Geralt of Rivia.
Lauren shared her motives that she wanted Geralt to be focused on his journey to keep Ciri and other Witchers save, for which Eskel had to die. So that was the reason behind all the events happening in the witcher season 2.
